West Round-up: Top three win

By James Gordon

Runcorn Linnets continue to set the pace in the EVO-STIK League West Division as the top three all won on a weather affected afternoon.

Linnets came from behind to beat Chasetown 2-1 thanks to Kurt Sherlock’s double, while third placed Atherton Collieries won 2-1 away at Colwyn Bay.

Rampant Radcliffe made it six straight wins with a 7-0 thrashing at Clitheroe.

Tunde Owolabi scored a hat-trick inside the first 28 minutes as Radcliffe led 4-0 at the break, Callum Grogan adding the other.

They showed no mercy to their hosts at Shawbridge in the second half either, adding three more through Matthew Crothers, Elliot Rokka and Louis Myers, to keep up the pressure on Runcorn.

Newcastle Town earned the local bragging rights with a 6-2 win over Market Drayton Town.
There were five goals in the first half as Harvey Howell twice equalised for the visitors from Kyle Stubbs and James Steele.

Chris Smith scored the first of his two goals for the hosts before the break, and Rod Orlando-Young and Matthew Lowe earned them the three points to pull them within two points of their opponents in the table.

Three goals in four second half minutes settled a five-goal thriller at the Butcher’s Arms Ground as Droylsden were beaten 3-2 by Leek Town.

The two sides were level at the break, Liam Caddick and Tim Grice the scorers, before a Sefton Gonzales penalty gave the hosts the lead.

But barely a minute later, Jordan Johnson had equalised and then Grice’s penalty won them the game.

Trafford lost ground on the top three as they were held to a goalless draw at home to Kidsgrove Athletic.

The meeting between bottom two Skelmersdale United and Kendal Town was abandoned with the score at 1-1 after 82 minutes due to a serious injury.

The games at Glossop North End and Widnes were postponed.
