West Round-up: Wins for high-flying Prescot and Atherton Colls

By James Gordon

Unbeaten EVO-STIK West Division leaders Radcliffe FC had a day off and that allowed Prescot Cables to join them on 16 points at the top of the table.

Cables won 3-0 at Parkside against Kendal Town, thanks to a Chris Almond hat-trick in the 27th, 30th and then in stoppage time at the end of the game from the penalty spot.

Atherton Collieries are third and overtook Runcorn Linnets after beating the newly-promoted side 3-2 at The Kensite Stadium

It was goalless at the break, hut just a minute into the second period, Vinnie Bailey gave the hosts the lead.

Freddie Potter equalised 6 minutes later, only for Matt Grimshaw to restore the hosts` advantage just 2 minutes later.

Dan Lambert made it 3-1 to Colls in the 83rd minute, but a goal from Connor McCarthy 2 minutes from time made for a nervy finale.

Bottom-markers Skelmersdale United are still without a win but picked up a second point from a 0-0 draw at home to Newcastle Town.

Second-bottom Glossop North End picked up their third point after sharing a 1-1 Surrey Street draw with Droylsden, whose Fabian Brandy put them in front after 36 minutes.

Darren McKnight rescued the Hillmen 18 minutes from time.

And third-bottom Clitheroe drew for the first time this season – 3-3 at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium against Ramsbottom United, who trailed after 2 minutes to a Max Hazeldine effort.

Jamie Rother levelled on 16 minutes, but Jason Jeffries after 36 minutes and James Sloane on 54 minutes took Clitheroe 3-1 up.

Jack Higgs reduced the deficit on 65 minutes and then Tom Brooks equalised with 9 minutes remaining.

Desean Martin bagged a brace as Market Drayton Town earned a good 2-0 win at Chasetown, while promoted Widnes won 4-2 at Llanelian Road against Colwyn Bay, whose Josh Brizell and an Elliot Jones own goal had them 2-1 up by the 32nd minute – Chris Lomax having given the visitors a 7th minute lead.

But Kevin Towey after 35 minutes and then George Webster on 47 minutes and Towey again on the hour-mark clinched the visitors` win.
