When the going gets tough ...

Warrington Town Chief Executive Richard Sutton is celebrating after completing the ultimate endurance challenge with his brother and nephew.

Richard, older brother Karl and his son Tony, pictured, successfully completed the 'Paras 10 Endurance Challenge' at the Army's Catterick base in Yorkshire to raise funds for charity.

The trio were supporting Willowbrook, an independent charity covering St Helens and Knowsley, which aims to enhance the quality of life and relieve the suffering of patients with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses by supporting their carers and providing specialist palliative care.

Richard, 46, completed the gruelling 10 mile challenge carrying 35lbs over 10 miles of undulating military land in 1 hour 59 minutes, just nine minutes outside the Parachute Regiment's own entry time. Karl, 54, completed the challenge in 2 hours and seven minutes and Tony, 27, in 2 hours and three minutes.

Organised by serving soldiers from the Parchute Regiment and managed by the Parachute Regiment Charity, the event is the same as the elite unit's own endurance entry test which trainees do 16 weeks training for and have to complete in 1 hour and 50mins.

As he recovered this week, Warrington's CEO said: "Despite a few monster blisters and a lost toe nail I finished the course just outside the regiment entry time. I was disappointed in the immediate aftermath but soon got back a sense of perspective as there were some real heroes out there including competitors who had lost limbs in Afghanistan who completed the course and many people who were running in aid of fallen soldiers."

He added: "I'll have to head back up to Catterick next year to try and crack that regiment entry time abut in the meantime if anyone can spare a pound or two for Willowbrook Hospice it would be greatly appreciated."
