Widnes bring in Macclesfield winger

Macclesfield winger Sam Grimshaw has joined Widnes on loan until January.

The 29-year-old has agreed a temporary switch to the DCBL Stadium on a deal running until January 28.

Grimshaw will also provide cover at left-back during his time at the Pitching In NPL West Division side.

He spent nine years with Manchester City as a teenager until his release, before finding his feet in non-league football at the likes of Altrincham, Radcliffe and Glossop North End.

His impressive performances with the latter earned him a trial at Manchester United in 2015, spending five weeks training with their first team under then manager Louis van Gaal.

Grimshaw has since featured at Step 4 level for both Trafford and the Silkmen, winning the NPL West Division title last season.

He is eligible to feature in Saturday’s fixture at Witton Albion.
