Wilcock played for the Rams as a striker between 2000 and 2002 and ended last season as manager at Shaw Lane, before they resigned from the league.
His notable achievements include leading Glossop North End to promotion into the EVO-STIK League, as well as taking the Hillmen to Wembley in the FA Vase.
He has previously been in charge at Winsford United, Mossley, Woodley Sport and Stocksbridge Park Steels, before winning 12 of 15 games in charge at Shaw Lane prior to their demise.
The job became vacant when Fell resigned on Tuesday to take up the post at EVO-STIK League Premier Division side Lancaster City.
Wilcock will bring in his own backroom staff and begins his duties with the team’s training session ahead of their EVO-STIK League West Division clash with Chasetown on Saturday.
