Williams wants revenge plus points

Whitby Town player-manager Darren Williams wants revenge as well as three points when league leaders North Ferriby United visit the Turnbull Ground on Wednesday night, writes Andrew Snaith.

Town had to settle for a 1-1 draw at the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League’s top side back in September after Nathan Mulligan's penalty was cancelled out by Jonny Muldoon's last-gasp leveller and Williams said: "We feel very aggrieved by the result down there. I thought we'd done enough, I thought we played particularly well and we should've got three points.

"Unfortunately, we conceded late on, due to a lack of concentration. It'll be a tough game, obviously, as North Ferriby are doing well and they're up the top of the league."

Knowing the opposition should also help the Blues prepare better for the NPL's top dogs and the Seasiders’ manager added: "You have a fair idea with the players now, a few have changed in the Ferriby ranks, but we tend to concentrate on our own game first before we worry about opponents."

Despite a 12-match goal drought, stretching back to November, frontman Mulligan is still Town's top scorer with sixteen strikes in all competitions. He is expected to return from a dead leg that saw him miss Saturday's emphatic win at Stocksbridge and remains upbeat about both his own and Whitby's chances.

Mulligan declared: "If I don't score for the rest of the season and we keep winning the games we are and get into the play-offs then it's job done. It's nice to score, don't get me wrong, but we're winning and that's the main thing for us."

The 26-year-old marksman doesn't think Town should be intimidated by facing the Evo-Stik Premier's number one side either and added: "We should've beat them, they scored with the last kick. I thought we controlled the game and played some great football.

"They're up there so they're obviously doing something right but I don't fear them at all and we've got as good a chance as anyone to beat them."
