Wilson wins club versus country dilemma

Ilkeston's Joe Maguire could miss watching brother Harry making his England Under 21 debut because he doesn’t want to incur the wrath of manager Kevin Wilson by missing training!

Robins central defender Maguire, 21, was over the moon to hear that his 19-year-old Sheffield United sibling has been called into Stuart Pearce’s squad for Tuesday night's friendly international against Northern Ireland at Blackpool's Bloomfield Road.

But instead of being there to see his family's big moment, Maguire will be with the rest of Ilkeston's Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division squad preparing for Saturday’s home clash with Derbyshire rivals Matlock Town.

The Robins central defender admitted: "It would have been nice to go to see him but I don’t want to upset the gaffer! We have an important game coming up at the weekend and that is my focus. I’m sure there will be other opportunities to see Harry and I will record the game off the television so I can watch it if he is involved.

"It’s a massive opportunity for him, especially with the World Cup only a couple of years away, which would have to be an ambition. So I’m pleased for Harry because he’s been playing really well this season following on from last and is a very good professional, doing everything right.

He added: "We grew up playing together in the same teams, first at Barnsley and then at Sheffield United before I went on to Scunthorpe. There used to be a lot of banter about who was doing better, but I think that has stopped now with the progress he has made.

"He’s played more than 80 League games for Sheffield United and though he’s still a teenager, you would think he is an experienced 30-year-old pro with the way he goes about things."
