Wonder volley was down to boss!

Alvechurch striker Daniel Dubidat will be thanking his manager Ian Long if he ends up winning FIFA's Puskas goal award after his stunning late winner against Sheffield FC in the EVO-STIK League was admired by millions around the world this weekend.

The former Bedworth, Redditch and Tipton Town hot-shot was definitely in the running for FIFA's annual accolade for the year's best goal after his superb three-touch volley on Saturday almost broke the internet, wracking up over 10,000 likes on Twitter within minutes of being posted by Alvechurch TV and millions of hits since on the websites of news outlets from Australia to Russia, the United States and China.

Former England striker Gary Lineker called the powerhouse forward's worldie "tasty, very tasty" on Twitter while ex-Arsenal and Alvechurch striker Alan Smith joked that he "preferred a two-yard tap in" when asked if he's seen the goal by The Sun.

The 25-year-old produced his moment of magic to send social media into meltdown with four minutes left on the clock at Lye Meadow when he plucked a long goal kick out of the sky, thigh controlled the ball around a defender and unleashed a stunning volley that crashed in off the underside of the bar.

Brummie Dubidat credited his manager in an interview with Alvechurch TV after his 14th goal of the season kept Church in second spot and leading the chasing pack behind EVO-STIK League South leaders Basford United.

The striker said: “The circumstances of the goal, it was 2-2 at the time, and it being late in the game, made it better. To be fair, I had a stinker for most of the game so to score that was a massive relief. I was getting stick from the gaffer who takes no prisoners, if someone is not playing well, he will tell them and I hold my hands up."

After reaching a worldwide audience with their footage from the 3-2 victory, @AlvechurchTV tweeted: "Not a bad weekend from our point of view, a load of new followers, another late winner, and an internet sensation!"

The EVO-STIK League was also trending again on Twitter over the weekend after Dubidat's goal helped last season's Midland League champions light up the social media platform's national and regional heat maps on Saturday night.

The global attention also means Alvechurch are already among the favourites to win a share of the £5,000 up for grabs at the end of the season in the new EVO-STIK League Digital Challenge. Launched last month, the competition is being sponsored by the Northern Premier League's title sponsors to celebrate the competition's 50th anniversary and drive the social media engagement of clubs and the league.

After Dubidat's new found fame, Church will take some beating for the special £500 prize on offer for the club attracting the highest number of views or downloads for a unique piece of video content featuring EVO-STIK branding!

The EVO-STIK League Digital Challenge will see £1,500 being handed out to the most digitally minded clubs in each division to celebrate the end of the milestone 2017-18 campaign. To create a level playing field for clubs of all sizes, the stats of all 68 on key platforms Facebook, Twitter and Instagram were benchmarked in September so the winners come from those demonstrating the biggest rise in web traffic and quality of social media engagement by next May.
