Woods earns Stalybridge deal

Stalybridge Celtic have signed left-back Ben Woods from West Didsbury & Chorlton.

Woods, 23, played against Celtic twice last season in the FA Cup, and lists 1874 Northwich, Ramsbottom United, Abbey Hey and Hyde United among his previous club.

He said: “I’m happy to have made the step up into the Northern Premier League, especially with a club like Stalybridge.

“I just want to get my head down now and be playing regular football to help the team progress.

“I wanna (sic) think the manager for taking a chance on me.”

Manager Simon Haworth added: “Ben is a good signing for us, left-back has been a real problem position for us over the last two seasons and Ben has come in and made a real good impression.

“With his pace and energy and enthusiasm to learn, the number three shirt is his to lose.

“I’m hoping he will have a real good season with us.”
