Worksop welcome Doncaster defender

Worksop Town have announced the signing of Bobby Faulkner from Doncaster Rovers on an initial one-month loan.

The 18-year-old, who progressed through Doncaster Rovers' academy, signed his first professional contract with the club in November 2021.

Since then, Faulkner has enjoyed a loan spell at Frickley Athletic before going onto make 10 appearances for the Rovers in League Two, scoring his first goal in 2-1 defeat away to Hartlepool in October.

Speaking to the club's website, Worksop Town manager Craig Parry is glad to bring in the young defender who will plug the gaps caused by injuries in his defensive line.

"Bobby has been touted for big success and he is now into double figures for first-team appearances with Doncaster.

"He has huge potential, and he is a lad that we have monitored pretty closely since the beginning of the season.

"As a player, Bobby puts his body on the line; he is big, he’s strong, he heads it, and he is good on the ball, so he fits the criteria of what we want from our centre-halves."

Parry added, "His addition allows us to fill a gap at this minute in time whilst Jack Broadhead is on the treatment table.

"At the back, we have been thin since Regan Hutchinson has been out, so bringing in Bobby allows us to change things and utilise the utility man Deegan Atherton, who has been exceptional in doing what we feel is great, so Bobby is another young kid that already has that experience in the Football League but wants to progress and learn and I believe that he will do a brilliant job alongside Hamza Bencherif.

"Knowing Paul Green, who is with Doncaster now and we want to say a massive thank you to him as he is still a massive part of the club, it is great to see that he feels that Worksop Town are a good fit for their young pros and that we have good foundations for them to be able to put them in here like an incubator so that we can help them grow and send them back better players."

Additionally, the Tigers have confirmed that current Doncaster Rovers loanee Tavonga Kuleya has extended his stay at the Nottinghamshire outfit until the end of the season.

Kuleya, 18, has made three appearances for Craig Parry's side, scoring one goal in a 4-0 victory over Tadcaster Albion in November.

"Tav has come at a time for us when we have wanted to strengthen in the wide areas to put pressure on the lads in there," Parry said.

"What we have seen so far is that he has unbelievable ability and I believe that he will go on to play more Football League matches.

"Eventually, here, he will play more games. It has been an unfortunate period for him at the moment as others have seen his presence and ability come through the door and he has done my job in a way because those players in front of him have had to step up a few more gears because he’s in the wings waiting for his chance.

"I spoke to him at training and said that once he gets his chance and you’re in there and starting, he will take some stopping to get him out of the side because he has great potential and will benefit from the seasoned pros around him that will help him, and it will do him the world of good."
