Wrens feel minted after Murray deal

Rainworth Miners Welfare believe they've finally cast aside their 'Cinderella' tag after four years in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League with the loan signing of Mansfield's Adam Murray, writes Paul Fryer.

The Stags' midfield star, pictured, joined the Wrens on a month's loan at the end of last week and officials believe it is further evidence that the club are finally starting to compete with the rest of the Evo-Stik NPL in the transfer market.

The 31-year-old started out at Derby County and went on to play for Carlisle United, Notts County, Burton Albion, Kidderminster Harriers, Macclesfield, Torquay United, Oxford United and most recently before Mansfield, Luton Town in 2010.

The First Division South Wrens are also looking forward to continuing to build on Chairman Mark Hawkins' time at neighbouring Mansfield where he was a director. Murray, a friend of Stags Chairman John Radford, helped save the club from voluntary relegation to Step 5 last season and was instrumental in arranging the Murray deal for manager Kevin Gee.

A club spokesman added: "As a club Rainworth feel honoured that Mansfield Town have entrusted us with one of their ‘special’ players and that Adam has wanted to join. We are also be grateful to the Chairman for making good on his promise to tap into Mansfield Town’s player resources."
