Wright 's making case for Vics job

Northwich Victoria's caretaker manager Alan Wright can continue staking his claim to replacing Andy Mutch on a permanent basis.

Mutch, along with coach Adriano Rigoglioso, quit the Vics on Saturday following their 2-1 Evo-Stik NPL First Division South defeat to Belper Town at Marston Road.

The Vics are welcoming applications for the post but former Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers star Wright is being given more time to make his own case for taking over.

On Wednesday night the 42-year-old got off to a flying start with the Vics hammering Northwich Villa 7-1 in the Mid-Cheshire Senior Cup but on Saturday he faces a sterner league test when he takes the team to Brigg Town.

Blackpool Academy coach Wright joined the Vics in February as assistant manager alongside Paul Stimson who quickly quit to take a job in Portugal. Wright then worked alongside Martin Foyle before staying on over the summer when Mutch took over following Foyle's exit.

Club Secretary Dave Thomas said: "We are welcoming applications but Alan will also be considered and takes the team again at the weekend while our Chairman Jim Rushe considers our options. Alan has been through three managers here now, is popular, experienced and one of people who is being looked at."
