Young guns fire up Vaughan

Trafford manager Gary Vaughan has enhanced the club's reputation for developing stars of the future by signing five talented youngsters.

Vaughan's young guns joined his Evo-Stik First Division North squad this week ahead of next weekend's big kick off to the campaign and the manager revealed that all five could make his starting line-up.

Fans at Shawe View can look forward to seeing the talents of 18-year-old keepers Sam Lynch, who's been with Manchester City for the last five years, and Hayden Buckley-Smith, who quit Curzon Ashton this summer. Vaughan hopes both will challenge Tommy Read as the The North's first choice.

Defender Billy Burgess, 16, was released by Rochdale and impressed his new boss in every pre-season game alongside another 16-year-old, Luke Heron. The left winger was previously with Oldham Athletic.

Midfielder Lewis James, also aged 16, completes Vaughan's summer business after being released by Wigan Athletic.

The manager, pictured, insists the new boys have every chance of getting into his side and is delighted with the added competition for places.

"All five have been exceptional in pre-season and I have told them, and the established players, that if they continue then they will be pushing their way into my plans," he said.

"We have never been afraid of promoting youngsters and it can only be good for them and us that we have such talent locally who can go on to be the future of this club. We are all excited by the potential that they have."
