Young scribe wows Whitby!

Teenager Paul Connolly is taking over the editing of Whitby Town's matchday programme next season after successfully launching the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club's Blue Army fanzine.

After last Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Eastwood Town the 16-year-old presented a cheque for £162 to the Premier Division outfit's Treasurer Andrew Spenceley, pictured, the proceeds from recent sales of the magazine as the Seasiders enjoyed their traditional 'Pay What You Want Day' for the final home game of the season.

Connolly handed over £60 more than anticipated and thanked the club for giving him his chance with the fanzine and the club's official programme from August.

He told whitby-town.com: "It's been an interesting nine months for me at since launching the Fanzine. It has been fantastic as the fanzine has gone from strength-to-strength and I have a feeling it will continue to do so. It's all down to a number of different people who have continued to promote and help raise the profile.

"The fanzine was launched to enhance the media side of the club and to promote the club. Since the launch, articles from the fanzine have been published in the Leeds United programme and I have received a number of kind comments and praise from people who have gone out of their way to help, whether it be to sell, print or promote the fanzine."

He added: "The culmination of this hard work is the offer of the chance to take over the running of the Whitby Town programme from next season onwards. I've accepted and I can't wait. Thank you to everybody for their support because none of this would have been possible without you. The support has been phenomenal."
