Zebras moving on after Grimes goes

Officials at Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Brigg Town expressed their ‘extreme disappointment’ on Thursday over the decision of joint manager Paul Grimes to return to Grantham Town as a player.

Grimes, pictured, was appointed by the First Division South Zebras in December to replace the departed Mick Gray as part of a managerial trio alongside Michael Jacklin and Scott Hellewell. He also managed the club’s U19s side and was playing a key role on and off the pitch after making what the club called a 'commitment to be a part of the future of Brigg Town'.

The Zebras, who are celebrating their 150th anniversary, say it is business as usual at the Hawthorns after Grimes' surprise departure to be reunited with his former managers Jimmy Albans and Wayne Hallcro.

Urging fans to get behind Jacklin and Hellewell, a spokesman said: "The first team will continue to be managed by Scott Hellewell and Michael Jacklin; and the U19’s, by Scott Hellewell. The club will continue to give Scott and Michael and the team our full support, and ask that all of our supporters do the same and get behind them, the players and the club management committee."

He added: "We will of course carry on, that is what we have always done, and will continue to do so; it’s what has made this great club of ours."
