1874 Northwich appoint new manager

The Pitching In NPL West Division side, who were officially relegated following a 3-0 defeat at Witton Albion on Easter Monday, have ended their two-month search for a new manager following the departure of Damian Crossley back in February.

Herbert was most recently part of the backroom staff at Salford City as a first team scout and analyst, then at Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

As a manager, he previously enjoyed a successful four-year spell at Runcorn Town, and also bolstered his CV in Wales with stints in charge of Conwy Borough, Cefn Druids and Flint Town.

The club have also confirmed that Herbert will be joined by an experienced assistant manager, whose appointment will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

On the new role, he said: “The catchment and stature of the club is fantastic. I have a lot of respect for the club and so do players around the area.

“I think the pull of the club will attract the players that we are going to be after, as they will want to be a part of what we are going to try and achieve here.”

1874 Northwich football secretary Vicki England said: “We knew we needed someone with good experience and knowledge along with an understanding of what 1874 is about, and Chris demonstrated all of this.

"The board is looking forward to working with Chris in the coming weeks to prepare us for the next chapter.

"I am sure all our supporters will welcome Chris to the club and will get behind him, his management team and the squad.”

Herbert will take charge of the club for the first on Saturday as they welcome managerless Clitheroe to Townfield.
