Danny Caldecott resigns as Clitheroe boss

Clitheroe have announced the departure of manager Danny Caldecott, who has resigned from his position in the wake of Saturday's 4-3 defeat to Hanley Town.

Caldecott took charge of the Blues in October, signing a long-term deal with the club after two-and-a-half years in charge of fellow Pitching In NPL West Division side Trafford.

He established Trafford as a competitive side in the division, despite their limited budget, before opting to make the move to Shawbridge.

Caldecott replaced Dave Dempsey, who was relieved of his duties at the beginning of October with the club sat in the play-off places at the time.

However, they have since dropped to 11th after a run of just nine wins from Caldecott's 26 league games in charge.

Following Saturday's latest defeat, the club took to social media to confirm his departure, saying: "Following today's game, Danny Caldecott has handed in his resignation along with that of his management team.

"Danny and his team leave Clitheroe FC with our very best wishes for the future."

Speaking to the club's official YouTube channel shortly before tendering his resignation, Caldecott reflected on a run which led to Clitheroe falling seven points adrift of fifth-placed Witton Albion in the race for the play-offs.

"We represent Clitheroe and have to do what's in the best interests of the football club," he said.

"I'm never one to shy away from responsibility. I came to the club with huge ambitions and gratitude for being given the opportunity.

"I genuinely believed we could get the club into the play-offs and promoted, but we've not been good enough and that's the truth of the matter."
