Assistant steps up at AFC Mansfield

Assistant manager Mark Ward has agreed to take on the vacant managerial position at AFC Mansfield.

Ward takes over from previous boss Rudy Funk on a permanent basis, following the manager’s departure at the weekend.

He joined the Bulls in the 2014/15 season as a player, and returned in 2016 as assistant manager to Funk after joining from Handsworth Parramore, where he had also been assistant boss.

Chairman, Andy Saunders, said: "I'm delighted that we have quickly filled the position and that Mark has agreed to take on the role.

"Mark has the full backing of the board and hopefully he can steer the club to consolidation in this league come the end of the season."

Rudy Funk departed the club on Saturday after a mutual agreement to part ways ended his four-year stint in charge.

The Bulls currently sit in the EVO-STIK League East Division relegation zone, and host Loughborough Dynamo on Saturday.
