Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Curzon Ashton made it four wins from four in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North on Bank Holiday Monday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Curzon won their Tameside derby at Seel Park against Mossley by the odd goal in five, taking a 23rd minute lead through Matt Warburton. Sam Madeley equalised in the 59th minute, but parity lasted barely a minute as Warburton notched his second of the game. Six minutes later he completed his hat-trick, only for Kevin McGrath`s 79th minute second for the hosts to make it a nervy finale.

Two second half goals by substitute Amar Purewal ensured Darlington 1883 returned to winning ways and put Saturday’s loss behind them. A crowd of 1,356 saw Darlo beat Kendal Town 3-1 with Andy Johnson scoring the other goal, having netted an early penalty. But Martin Gray’s side had to work hard for their win at Heritage Park after Jordan Connerton`s 55th minute equaliser.

Bamber Bridge are third in the fledgling table after getting their third win in four games in a convincing 2-0 victory at Clitheroe. After an even start the breakthrough came on 35 minutes with Greg Johnstone heading past the keeper from an Ali Waddecar cross. The second goal came from Waddecar on 57 minutes as his shot was deflected in off Jack Higgins.

Fine strikes from Wes Bancroft after 22 minutes and Danny Browne on 31 minutes sank Radcliffe Borough at Stainton Park to extend Salford City's unbeaten start to four games while two superb goals from Ben Wharton either side of half-time earned Warrington Town a 2-0 win at Northwich Victoria.

Farsley FC secured their second win of the holiday weekend after a 64th minute Matt Dempsey goal helped them to a hard earned 1-0 victory over Ossett Albion at Dimple Wells.

New boys Padiham gained their first win as an Evo-Stik NPL side, winning the Lancashire derby 2-1 at Ramsbottom United who, like Radcliffe, are yet to pick up a point. Kieran Pickup proved to be the Storks` hero, bagging a brace in the 11th and 30th minutes – the second from the spot – with Tom Brooks replying for Rammy two minutes from time.

Lancaster City maintained their unbeaten start, but had to be content with a point from a 1-1 Giant Axe draw with Burscough. Despite taking an early third minute lead through Tom Kilifin, they were pegged back when Conor Roberts equalised 20 minutes from time.

Elsewhere, Cammell Laird earned a 3-0 derby success at Valerie Park against Cammell Laird, thanks to goals from Nick Rogan right on half-time, Jon Atkinson two minutes from time and then Jack Webb in stoppage time.

Harrogate Railway won their latest Yorkshire derby at Station View against Wakefield with goals from Dan Thirkell and Jesus Martin-Farina in the final 18 minutes, while New Mills beat Ossett Town at home with goals from Jack Poxon on 55 minutes and Chris Baguley 13 minutes from the end.
