Barker bouncing back from Rio!

By David Watters

After its transfer from the BBC to AudioBoom this summer, Caroline Barker hosts a cup special from Rio for the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League’s fans, players and officials on this weekend’s newly returned Non League Show.

Released to download for free on Friday on the world’s leading audio platform and also on iTunes, the hour long podcast features FA Cup super statistician Phil Annetts, better known on Twitter as @FACupFacfile.

With the EVO-STIK NPL’s First Division North and South clubs getting ready to kick off in the FA Cup’s Preliminary Round this weekend, Guernsey secretary Mark Le Tissier joins the debate as the Channel Islanders prepare to host the most southerly tie ever when they host Ryman League rivals Thamesmead Town on Saturday.

The long-running weekly show returned last week to a new Friday home on AudioBoom and iTunes after BBC Radio decided not to recommission it after a decade covering Non-League, six years on BBC London before four more seasons on BBC 5Live.

As a result of the switch, a free and easily downloadable embedded player is now available for clubs to host the show on their own websites while fans can share content elsewhere on Google Play, Stitcher, Facebook, Twitter and their own websites and mobile apps.

Barker, a regular presenting voice elsewhere on the Beeb, is looking forward to delivering a new and improved version of the much-loved show direct to the ears of a national and global football audience with AudioBoom reaching more than 50 million people every month on the 8,000 content channels the platform hosts.

After quizzing guests from Rio where she's covering the Olympics for the BBC, the presenter and Chelmsford City fan said: "There was never any doubt that The Non League Show would return again this season - we love making it, love dealing with the fans, players, managers and administrators of the wonderful world of Non-League football and we love that it makes a difference to so many who are passionate about this level of the game.

"The only doubt was what platform it would be on and with AudioBoom we know we have the right partner to take the show and the awareness of the grassroots game to another level. The show motto has always been 'for the fans, by the fans' and AudioBoom offers a great opportunity for us to interact even more with fans."

AudioBoom's head of sport Marc Webber said: "We are delighted to be the new home of the Non League Show. We already help many grassroots football clubs from Wrexham to Slough share the sounds of their club for free and to be able to host the flagship show for the semi-pro and amateur game means no one has more audio on this well-supported scene as AudioBoom."
