Blues boot room boosted by Spinks

Frickley Athletic manager Spencer Fearn has added Craig Spink to the touchline team at his EVO-STIK League's promotion-chasers.

Spink, pictured, was welcomed on to the coaching staff at the second-placed EVO-STIK League South club's Big Fellas Stadium on Monday by the Blues boss, four days after standing down as Worksop Town's caretaker manager to make way for newly appointed Tigers manager Duncan Milligan.

UEFA B coach Spink came through the ranks at Worksop U21s and reserves and played for Maltby & Staveley in the Northern Counties East League before hanging up his playing boots to concentrate on coaching.

Already involved in grassroots with Doncaster Rovers through the coaching school he founded, he returned to Worksop Town two years ago to take charge of the NCEL club's U19s before stepping up to the first team as assistant manager.

Spink said: “I’m delighted to be working with Spencer. Having done all our coaching badges together I’ve known him for many years now and have a very similar views in the game. It’s a great opportunity to be working at a good level with an already very experienced backroom staff set up.

"Following the disappointment of leaving my hometown club last week I’ve received many offers to get back into management but I think this is the right move for me to gain experience and work at a club moving in the right direction with a chairman and a manager who have the same principles as me. I can’t wait to get started, meet the players and staff and began a new chapter.”

A delighted Spencer told the club's website: “I have known Craig for several years and he is a superb coach. He has a real enthusiasm and knowledge of the game and he will certainly be a great addition to our team. He is a proven developer of players and has an excellent reputation.

"As soon as I heard he had left Worksop Town I was in contact with Craig. We met at Westfield Lane and he decided there and then he would be coming to us. We are all absolutely delighted that he has chosen to come to Frickley Athletic as he certainly was not short of offers since he moved on from Worksop Town.”
