Frickley Athletic are teaming up with Sheffield United to launch a new Academy set-up this summer.

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's Blues say the new initiative will be headed by Allan Howcroft, a coach and scout with the Championship outfit's Development Centre.

Frickley Athletic Committee Member Penny Wall is pictured with Sheffield United player Elliott Whitehouse and Howcroft at the launch of the venture at Westfield Lane.

The Premier Division club say their new Academy will cater for all children, regardless of their ability, and will initially kick off with sections for U9s and U11s. Players who excel with the junior Blues will have the opportunity to progress to the Development Centre at the Blades.

The youngsters will use facilities at both clubs and will also get the chance to be involved in matchday initiatives at first team games at both Bramall Lane and Frickley's ground.

The Blues are now recruiting players for the Academy which will also host a special section - 'Our Stars of the Future' - for children aged between 4 and 6 as a fun way to encourage more youngsters to play football.

Officials say training will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays - 6-7pm for the U9s and 8-9pm for the U11s - with the first session pencilled in for Tuesday 14 August.

Anyone interested should contact Allan Howcroft on 07971 886223.
