Booze banned for internationals

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Leek Town say there will be a blanket ban on alcohol at Harrison Park when they host two UEFA U17s internationals next week.

The Blues issued a reminder to fans this week ahead of hosting Ukraine versus Finland on Thursday followed by England's clash with Finland at the First Division South club's home on Saturday (March 26).

Both group stage ties in UEFA's Elite Championship for a place at this summer's finals are kicking off at 3pm and as well as banning alcohol from the ground to comply with UEFA and FA rules, officials say the Blues Bar will also be shut.

A club spokesman said: "Tickets are selling well for the two internationals to be staged at Harrison Park and Blues vice-chairman Andy Wain is keen to advise spectators that, in line with UEFA and FA rules, alcohol is not allowed during the game and, therefore the social club Blues Bar will not open."

Admission is free to the Ukraine game with tickets priced at £3 for adults and £1.50 for concessions now on sale for England's game. After taking on Finland, England head to Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday 29 March to play the Ukraine in their final qualifier to reach May's finals in Azerbaijan.

Earlier this month, Leek Town helped the British Army prepare for April's Inter-Services Tournament against the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy by taking them on at Harrison Park.

The Blues were chosen for the warm-up match after British Army coach Simon Bell contacted manager Lee Casswell, a former teammate from their playing days, to test them.
