Bradford duo land at Nest

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Farsley AFC have signed Aiden Savory and Matty James from Conference North neighbours Bradford Park Avenue.

The pair could make their debuts for the First Division North's Villagers against Leeds United at Throstle Nest in one of Non-League football's headline friendlies on Saturday.

The powerful striker has an impressive record in the Evo-Stik NPL following spells at Ossett Town and two with Avenue. He's also played for Harrogate Town and appeared for Goole AFC against Farsley in February after returning from playing in Australia before spending the rest of the season at Bradford PA.

Villagers boss Neil Parsley said: "Aiden knows a lot of the players down here anyway but it did take some persuading because a player of Aiden’s ability and reputation probably warrants playing at a higher standard.

"He is a no-nonsense honest player. He played for Goole against us last year and gave us a hard time. He is well-known throughout the Non-League circuit in Yorkshire and I think he will provide the power up front."

Parsley also welcomed play-maker James back to Throstle Nest after a brief loan spell at the end of last season. He also played for the Villagers' previous incarnation during the 2008-09 campaign and added: "I like Matty, he’s an off-the-cuff player, but he can make things happen. He does things that other players can’t.

"He had a stop-start season last year due to a back injury and other little niggles but he has worked hard like all the other players have during pre-season. Hopefully, his fitness levels will be higher going into the start of the season."
