Brownhill back on defensive duties

Ramsbottom United manager Mark Fell has snapped by experienced defender Liam Brownhill to strenghthen his defence in the EVO-STIK League.

The 30-year-old former Ashton United, Bangor City, Connahs Quay Nomads, Chester, Droylsden, FC United of Manchester, Trafford and Witton Albion defensive veteran is expected to feature in the Buildbase FA Trophy on Saturday against Colwyn Bay after making his debut in Tuesday's 2-1 victory for the Rams in EVO-STIK League North over Brighouse Town.

A former youth star at Stockport County who can play at right or left-back, Brownhill, pictured, established himself as one of the best defenders in the EVO-STIK League during three year spells at Witton Albion and Droylsden between 2005 and 2011 to be called up England C.

Brownhill, who was at Trafford last season and then joined Glossop North End in May before signing for Fell, joined FC United of Manchester in the summer of 2013. He'll feel at home at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium after renewing acquaintances with cousin Kyle Brownhill and former Rebels teammates Dean Stott, Greg Daniels, Tom Greaves and Jerome Wright.
