Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division side Buxton face Morecambe in the FA Cup Second Round Proper this Saturday, live on BBC One.
The action kicks-off on BBC One from 12:45pm, while Buxton are expecting a sell-out crowd inside the Silverlands stadium for their mouth-watering tie with Football League One’s Morecambe.
Buxton, who are the lowest-ranked side left in this year’s FA Cup competition, are just one game away from joining Premier League and Championship clubs in the third-round draw, an achievement made by Northern Premier League side Marine just last season.
Previewing the clash, Buxton midfielder Chris Dawson said: “I can’t wait for it now to be honest. It’s been a few years now since I’ve been involved in a game this big and for it to be televised is great for us as a team and especially for the club.
“We’ve been preparing all week, so we have an idea of what to expect come Saturday, but I don’t think there’s much nerves coming from the lads at the moment but maybe that will change come kick-off!”
Dawson, a former Wales Under-21s international who is a product of the Leeds United academy, featured in the club’s first round victory over York, where more than 1,000 Buxton fans travelled to see their side create history.
“The support in the last round was incredible,” Dawson said.
“As soon as you walked out you could feel the atmosphere and buzz around the ground. I don’t know about the rest of the lads, but it definitely gave me an extra 10% and I’m sure it will Saturday.”
Steven Cunningham’s side currently sit fourth in the Premier Division table, and have lost just one two games in all competitions so far in the 2021/22 season.
It is the first time Buxton have reached this stage of the competition in nearly 60 years.
“It’s a great team to be a part of and one that’s only going to get better I believe,” Dawson added.
“There’s a great mix of leaders and top players in the side and it’s exciting to see what we can achieve this season on top of what we already have.
“We know it’s going to be a very tough game against Morecambe and we are big underdogs, but we will be giving it everything we’ve got to get into the next round.
“It’s the FA Cup, anything can happen!”
