Buxton “buzzing” for FA Cup clash

Buxton forward Ashley Chambers says there’s a “great buzz” around the club as they prepare for the Emirates FA Cup Second Round Proper tie with Morecambe.

The Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division side remain the lowest-ranked team in the competition, and their tie against Football League One opposition will be covered live on BBC One, with a 12:45pm kick-off.

Buxton, who are set for a sell-out crowd at Silverlands stadium, have already featured in seven FA Cup games so far this campaign, including two replays, and defeated York in the First Round Proper to progress to their best in nearly 60 years.

“I’m really looking forward to it. It’s been a great buzz around the dressing room and it will be a great atmosphere no doubt on the day,” said Chambers, who joined the club in June.

“The lads are relaxed and approaching it like a normal league game. There’s no pressure on us because we’ve done fantastic to get to this stage, so we’re just riding the wave and enjoying every moment.

“The FA Cup gives you the chance and the hope of playing against the players you see on the TV every week, but even if it doesn’t get that far you can still enjoy a fantastic journey and create some great memories.”

31-year-old Chambers started his career at Leicester City, making nine appearances in total for the Foxes before going on to enjoy stints at the likes of York City, Dagenham & Redbridge, Nuneaton Town and Kidderminster Harriers.

He joined Buxton ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, and featured from the bench in their round one success over his former club.

“Of course, being a part of something successful was a big selling point when I joined the club but an FA Cup run like this is something you don’t really think of,” Chambers said.

“It’s been a great journey so far and to give the fans something to cheer about is always nice.

“Come kick-off time I’m sure they will be a party atmosphere around the ground and hopefully that feeds into the boys and we can show the crowd and everyone watching what we’re trying to build at Buxton football club.”
