Cables revert to amateur status

The Board of Directors of Prescot Cables must announce to the Supporters and Shareholders that the Club is from today’s date returning to amateur status. This means that as the club moves forward no wages will be paid to the players. This prudent but difficult decision has been taken with the best interests of the club at heart and with the sole intention of securing the longevity of Prescot Cables Community Interest Club.

As a Community Interest Club Cables must follow the rules of its constitution and has responsibilities towards its Shareholders and Supporters. This requires that the Club is managed with all due diligence and remains financially solvent.

The Club started the 2011-2012 League campaign in a weak financial position. In a difficult economic climate the Club has been unable to secure a major sponsor whilst at the same time it was faced with an unexpected and substantial bill to overhaul the floodlights. Despite best efforts to recover from that situation the Committee have decided that they had little option but to prevent the Club from entering into a position of debt.

The decision to return to amateur status was taken after much deliberation and after considering a number of options. The change in status will assist in ensuring that Prescot Cables continues to exist at the highest standard of local non-league football in the Prescot and Knowsley area of Merseyside.

The timing of a decision such as this is always difficult to get completely right and a balance must be struck between achieving the optimal result for the Club whilst ensuring that Prescot Cables remains open, and honest towards the Management Staff, Players, Shareholders and Supporters. The Board feel that the release of the decision has been conducted completely in accordance with the above aim. Nevertheless this decision will undoubtedly receive mixed reactions and some of those affected or involved will understandably be surprised and disappointed.

It is hoped that observers will see this action as being a sensible decision taken to avert further problems. At all times Prescot Cables has completely honoured its financial responsibilities and this includes the responsibility towards paying players and staff.

The Club must now move forward and face a challenging time in what remains of the season. It is with hope and anticipation that we do so with the continued and loyal support of everyone involved at the Club. This is a time for all Board, Management, Players and Supporters to pull together and work towards securing the future success of the Club.
