Cambridge double signing off to a flying start

Cambridge City have announced the signing of midfielder Tom Waumsley and forward Daniel Cotton.

Waumsley, 30, joins the Lilywhites from league rivals Stamford, after the club waived a seven-day approach for the experienced forward.

He only made three appearances this season for the Daniels, and he will be looking for more consistent game-time in Robbie Nightingale’s squad.

The attacking-midfielder previously played for Yaxley, netting 91 goals for the side in 167 matches.

Joining him at Stamford is his former Cuckoos teammate, Cotton.

The 34-year-old joins from Yaxley, having enjoyed eight seasons with the side where he amassed an impressive goalscoring record of 215 goals in 336 games.

Both players opened their tally with their new club, netting first-half goals in their 2-0 win over Wisbech St Mary in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup.

Nightingale will hope for more of the same from his new recruits, ahead of a busy round of fixtures in November.
