Premier Division round-up: Tigers move three points clear at the top

By James Gordon

Hyde United established a three-point lead at the top of the Northern Premier League thanks to a 1-0 win at South Shields on Tuesday night.

In a close encounter at the 1st Cloud Arena, Bradley Roscoe’s second half strike was enough to see the Tigers extend their lead at the division’s summit.

They also still have a game in hand on nearest challengers FC United of Manchester.

It proved to be a third consecutive defeat in all competitions for Kevin Phillips’ side - their worst run of form since he took charge of the club.

Elsewhere, Whitby Town ended Warrington Town’s recent purple patch as goals from Bradley Fewster and Aaron Haswell sealed a 2-1 win on the Yorkshire Coast.

Yellows top scorer Connor Woods cancelled out Fewster’s opener 11 minutes after half-time, only for the Seasiders to restore their advantage less than two minutes later.

Lancaster City managed to climb out of the relegation places after a 3-2 win away at Marske United.

First half goals from Bradley Carroll and Nic Evangelinos set them on their way, before Samuel Bailey converted from the penalty spot six minutes from time.

Dale Hopson’s penalty set up a grandstand finish, but it wasn’t enough for Curtis Woodhouse to take home his first points as Marske manager.

Finally, Ashton United moved three points above Guiseley after a 2-1 win at Nethermoor.

Efforts from Darius Osei and Cole Lonsdale sealed three points for the Robins as they bounced back well from Saturday’s defeat to Nantwich Town.
