Carlton midfielder released from hospital

Carlton Town have announced midfielder Niall Davie has been released from hospital, after their game against Pontefract Collieries was abandoned on Tuesday.

Davie initially went down after being hit by a stray elbow. He was initially allowed to carry on after getting treatment.

But soon after, he went down again. After realising what had happened, the referee stopped the game. Play was held up for 40 minutes while he was treated by paramedics for suspected concussion. Eventually, he was taken to hospital for tests and observations.

Meanwhile, the game itself was abandoned with 31 minutes on the clock.

A statement on the club website said: “He was taken to Hospital and kept in for tests and observation, but although he can expect to have some bad headaches in the coming days, he appears by all accounts to be on the mend and is now resting at home.

“One or two individuals at the club were clearly affected by Niall’s condition and fearing the worst, but we are delighted to have positive news.”

Due to the league finishing on Saturday, the game between the Colls and the Millers will take place on Thursday night.
