Carlton's Kitchen unhurt in RTA

D1S side's skipper overturned work van whilst avoiding fox

Carlton Town skipper Ashley Kitchen was taken to hospital after overturning his van in an early morning accident in Mansfield as he tried to avoid a fox dashing across the road.

The club captain was on his way to work and was lucky to escape with only bruises after the vehicle rolled after hitting the curb.

Police were soon on the scene and Kitchen was breathalysed but the Carlton skipper is known to only drink alcohol on special occasions and was given the all clear before going off to hospital by ambulance to be checked over.

He told us ‘It was pure instinct that I broke and then with the ice, I skidded across the road, hit the curb and the van rolled over twice into the ditch.’

‘If a vehicle had been coming the other way it could have been curtains; I’m lucky to be alive.’

Kitchen suffered a double blow out and a cracked windscreen and is waiting to see if his vehicle will be written off by insurers or not.

He was released from hospital with just bruising and although in a state of shock for some hours after, will be available for selection for Carlton’s top of the table clash with Grantham on Saturday although the game is already in doubt as Carlton’s pitch is still covered in thick snow.

Kitchen thanked those who had sent messages of support ‘I have had lots of kind messages and I understand the club has too and I thank everyone for the care and concern and although very shaken and bruised, I’m OK.’
