Carragher renews community deal

By David Watters

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Marine are celebrating the extension of their partnership deal with Jamie Carragher’s 23 Soccer School.

The Mariners entered into a formal agreement with the 38-year-old Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit at the start of last season to provide community coaching for young schoolchildren from Crosby and the surrounding areas at the Marine Travel Arena.

The retirement of Marine's volunteer coaching staff last summer after more than 20 years paved the way for the successful introduction of Jamie Carragher’s 23 Soccer School at the floodlit facilities.

With the big kick-off to the EVO-STIK NPL's new top flight campaign on Saturday, officials say they are delighted that Carragher's school will be laying on Monday night football coaching classes and holiday soccer schools again for local schoolchildren aged 5-12 and continuing their tradition of providing community coaching.

Marine chairman Paul Leary said: “We are really pleased that the Soccer School has expressed a wish to continue using our Stadium for another season. We are delighted that the Jamie Carragher coaching brand has once again chosen Marine FC as the venue to provide football coaching for young children from Crosby and the local area.

"I look forward to working with the staff at the Soccer School to provide a continuing benefit for the local community through the provision of children’s football training either through the Monday night football or school holiday soccer camps.”

Jamie Carragher said: “I popped in a few times last year to see the Monday night football sessions and thought they looked good and the kids seemed to be enjoying themselves which is the most important thing. I am sure I will pop in again this year to see what great work the coaches are doing.”

The soccer school's director James Olsen added: “After our first year with Monday night football at Marine I am delighted that we will be continuing the link with Marine. We had over 130 kids each Monday night doing technical and fun drills finishing with matches.

"We aim to continue the high standards that we set and would like to invite new and existing customers to the Monday night football. If you would like to register or have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.”
