Casswell hails his best week yet

Leek Town

After beating Mickleover Sports and league leaders Sutton Coldfield Town twice away from home, Lee Casswell is hailing the last week as his best ever since taking over at EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Leek Town.

Sports were dispatched 4-1 at home last weekend before the fifth-placed Blues and the Royals locked horns on Saturday at The Central Ground, Casswell's side inflicting a quick-fire league and cup double as well as a season treble on their opponents with a hard fought 1-0 victory on the 3G pitch after their 3-0 win in the Doodson Sports Cup four days earlier.

Blues won the home league fixture 6-1 back in late November and with other results going their way and ten goals scored in a week by his team, Casswell, pictured, was a happy manager at Harrison Park on Monday.

Casswell said: "It’s been a great week for the club – the best week since we came to Harrison Park. Victories over Sutton Coldfield and Mickleover were vital and I am delighted with the way the players are putting in committed performances against really good sides.

"Sutton are a strong side with a great group of players, as good as anything we’ve seen this season, and they are destined for at least a play-off place. At this stage we are contenders for the title amongst a group of challengers but we’re only half way through our league campaign and there are likely to be knockbacks on the way. However, we’ll take each game as it comes starting with the Staffs Senior Cup at home to Chasetown on Wednesday."

As a result of their successful exploits in the FA Cup, FA Trophy, Staffordshire Senior Cup and the Doodson Sports Cup and 15 ties played so far, Casswell's side are only half-way through their league campaign. Instead of fearing a possible fixture pile-up and burn out among his players, he welcomed the opportunities the cup run offered.

Casswell added: "I’m delighted with our progress in the cup competitions because it has enabled me to give chances to the whole squad. These games are an opportunity to give players games and are a good thing for the squad strength."
