Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Skelmersdale United are hosting a three day beer festival at the West Lancashire College Stadium over the weekend as celebrations to mark their championship winning season continue, writes Neil Leatherbarrow.

Starting at the First Division North champions' ground on Friday evening, Skem hope the award winning beers and ales on sale at their three day 'Champions Beer Festival' will attract people from across the North West.

A share of profits from the event is going to the Teenage Cancer Trust and the event is being sponsored by T & J.T. Barton (Bottlers) Limited.

The festival will see 25 traditional beers and ciders on sale with a whole range of entertainment taking place each day. Organisers say the beers have been sourced to include local favourites from specialist breweries around Lancashire and beyond.

The festival kicks off at 5pm on Friday and runs until late. Saturday sees the gates open at noon while Sunday's designated family fun day opens at the same time.

Friday's entertainment is due to be opened by award winning singer Emma Dane who is followed by tribute band the UnSpecials. Female vocalist Rachael is appearing on Saturday along with local band Hail Caesar. Sunday's attractions for all the family include fairground rides, a bouncy castle, face Painting, a children's football competition and 'Football Golf'.

Entrance on Sunday is also free. Entrance on Friday or Saturday is £5 with tickets valid for the entire weekend.
