Christmas competition won by a single vote!

The NPL Facebook Group's Christmas caption competition was won by a single vote after hundreds of fans joined in the festive fun.

NPL Facebook Group member Lee Burnham is looking forward to collecting the inaugural NPL Christmas Trophy after collecting 57 'likes' for his take on the accompanying picture, "Come on lads cheer up, the Harrogate announcer has almost finished the line-ups!".

The new competition was launched in the run-up to Christmas for the NPL Facebook Group's four thousand plus members and is likely to be repeated.

NPL Facebook spokesman Bradley Dobson said: "The competition ended at midnight on Christmas Eve and there was only one 'Like' in it. Commiserations to Ben Graham who ended the competition on 56 behind Lee Burnham with 57.

"A trophy will now be sent to Lee after the festive period. We'd like to thank everybody who took part and are looking forward to next Christmas already!"

The league's social group passed the 4,000 membership milestone in November after being set up back in 2009 by two fans watching an FA Trophy tie between FC Halifax Town and Shepshed Dynamo - ironically now both former EVO-STIK NPL clubs.

Initially known as the UniBond Group, the NPL Facebook has steadily grown to become one of the best supported online communities in football which also has nearly 4,000 followers on Twitter.
