Christmas Sunday's First Division North review

EVO-STIK NPL First Division North

Only two of the nine games scheduled in the EVO-STIK Northern Premeir League First Division North managed to get the go ahead on Sunday due to the ice and snow, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Salford City had the opportunity to go into the New Year on top of the table when they travelled to a Harrogate Railway Athletic side in good form.

And Rail made it eight games unbeaten to move into fifth place after a 1-0 victory at Station View, thanks to top scorer Nathan Cartman's 73rd minute goal from the penalty spot in front of a good crowd of 403.

The only other game to survive produced six goals – all to the home side Kendal Town!

Third-bottom Prescot Cables found the Mintcakes in good form. Three first half goals from Reece Fishwick after 19 minutes, Zach Clark seven minutes later and Gregg Johnstone on the half-hour mark on his home debut, gave Kendal a healthy lead.

Two quick goals from Jordan Connerton on 46 and 50 minutes at the start of the second half put the result beyond any doubt. Second half substitute and debutant Dave Swarbrick then scored with a great strike eight minutes from time to complete the scoring.
