Clitheroe reveal retained list

Clitheroe have confirmed the players who will be staying at the club for the 2023-24 season and beyond.

The Blues finished fourth in last season’s West Division table. They were beaten 2-0 against Workington, who would end up winning the playoffs, and promotion.

In total, the club have retained the services of 15 players for next season.

Chris Thompson, Darren Holden, Cameron Lancaster, Billy Priestley, Jacob Hansen. Waqas Azam, Lee Pugh, Richard Baker, Charlie Russell, Callum Harris, Danny Wilkins, Ross Dent, John McGrath, Reece Webb-Foster and Sefton Gonzales will all remain at Shawbridge next season.

All the players played key roles for the team last year. Thompson played 47 games for the club last year, and was their highest appearance maker. Lancaster, Webb-Foster, Baker and Gonzales also made over 40 appearances. Gonzales was also top scorer, with 21 goals.

Priestley, Wilkins, Kent and Pugh all made over 30 appearances. Darren Holden also made 27 appearances.

Jacob Hanson made 12 appearances after signing in February. Azam signed for the club ahead of the 2022-23 season, but has not played since November, since coming off after 20 minutes against City of Liverpool. He made nine appearances, while Harris made eight.

Russell made eight appearances last year after signing in October. McGrath made five appearances.
