Curaçaoan international joins Matlock Town

Matlock Town have unveiled experienced midfielder Kemy Augustien as their latest summer signing.

Born in Holland but 15 times an international for Curacou, 36-year-old Augustien will add a wealth of experience to the Gladiators changing room.

He began his career with Willem 11 for two years before a move to AZ Alkmaar followed. This was all between 2004-10, in which there were loan spells at three clubs, most notably Birmingham City.

Augustien featured in the Premier League during his time at Swansea City between 2010-13, making his debut in the English top flight against Manchester City. In total, he made 39 appearances for the Swans.

Spells at Crystal Palace and Brighton followed for Augustien, who has most recently been playing at non-league level for the likes of Mickleover, Hednesford Town and Kettering Town.

Discussing his arrival, manager Martin Carruthers said: “His CV speaks for itself. He’s nicely experienced, having played in the Football League and the Premiership.

"He’s a very good footballer, very experienced and will be great in the dressing room. He’s just what we need, he’s great on the ball and will dictate play.”
