Dabbers rule out rushed replacement

Nantwich Town's Jon Gold is backing caretaking player manager Darren Moss to carry on giving the Dabbers the time they need to appoint the right man to succeed the departed Jimmy Quinn.

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club's Chairman insisted on Friday that with Moss holding the fort well, they'll take their time over the vacant manager's role at the Premier Division's Weaver Stadium.

Gold said: "Darren has been doing a good job and we have had some good performances. It's important for us to get the right person in so we are in no rush to make a decision."

Along with Director of Football Clive Jackson, Gold revealed he has narrowed down more than 50 applicants to six. Former Crewe Alexandra star Steve Walters has already declared publically that he's the right man to lead the Dabbers after applying for the job. Walters amassed more than 100 appearances for the Alex and Gold confirmed he was among the final candidates. He also said they'll all need to share Nantwich's philosophy of playing attractive football and developing young players.

He added: "We have had applicants who are already in jobs and I cannot comment on, but Darren will be one of the six. We want someone that understands the philosophy of the club, to improve the young players and move them on to bigger things. We need to consolidate and then look to push on."
