The Middlesbrough-based champion was congratulated by the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club on Twitter on Sunday after he backed fellow Teesider Chris Hardy's side to win promotion, the 46-year-old holding aloft the club's colours on stage moments after defeating Dutchman Danny Noppert to win his first Lakeside title, pictured. Durrant later credited 'Teesside steel' as his key to victory!
The Ormesby thrower lived up to his BDO No 1 rank and top seed billing in an enthralling final in Frimley Green, winning four sets in a row to claim the £100,000 first prize and join an illustrious list of Lakeside world championship winners, including Eric Bristow, Phil Taylor, Raymond van Barneveld and Jocky Wilson.
Seasiders boss Hardy, 43, left Guisborough Town in December 2015 after nearly seven years guiding the club in the Northern League to succeed Darren Williams in the hotseat at Whitby's Turnbull Ground. On Saturday his fourth-placed side host second placed Buxton in the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight.
Whitby, the town at least, has been beamed around the world this season already by Amazon TV after Jeremy Clarkson and his new Grand Tour show returned to the UK for the first time to record an episode with a local audience from the seaside town's harbour.
