After leaving City in 2003 and finishing as the club's top scorer for four consecutive seasons, Goater had spells with Reading, Coventry City and Southend United before bringing his 20 year playing career to an end in 2006 when he retired. In 2003 he was awarded an MBE for services to sport and young people in Bermuda.
