New scheme launched for local kids

EVO-STIK Northern Premier League Ilkeston FC are teaming up with three key community agencies to offer youngsters a sporting outlet and encourage them to think more about healthy eating and their well being.

Proud officials at the EVO-STIK NPL Premier Division club say their coaching staff will be working with Derbyshire County Council, DCC Youth Service and Derbyshire Police on a weekly basis at Aldercar High School Sports Hall and Langley Mill.

In a statement on Tuesday announcing the new community partnership to support the Langley Mill Community Scheme, the Robins said the youngsters aged 7 to 16 taking part would also be invited to the New Manor Ground for sports workshops and to see Paul Holland's side in action.

The Robins, led by assistant head coach and academy manager Steve Welsh and his coaching team, are working with the other agencies after the Langley Mill Community Scheme received substantial funding from the Community Chest of Derbyshire County Council.

Derbyshire County Councillor Paul Jones, who prioritised the scheme for the award, is pictured presenting a cheque for £16,700 to the partnership on Saturday before the Robins kicked off against Corby Town in the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight.

Former Heanor Town chairman and friend of Ilkeston FC John McCulloch is vice-chairman of the enterprising Langley Mill Community Scheme which kicks off its first session at Aldercar High School on Wednesday 15 February followed by regular weekly sessions from March onwards.
