Derby success inspires Wrens

Rainworth Miners Welfare

Wrens coach Ian Whyte is looking forward to seeing Rainworth Miners Welfare build on their Easter Monday draw at Carlton Town and go one better at Market Drayton today [Saturday].

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club's assistant manager believes they’ll be in much better heart after ending their four match losing sequence in First Division South with a hard fought 0-0 derby day draw at the Millers.

Whyte, pictured, said: "Getting something out of that match was a big positive for us but I believe we deserved to take something out of the previous two games, especially against Sheffield on Saturday.

"It's something we must build on for the Market Drayton trip. Carlton was a difficult place to go to and it was a local derby with local pride at stake. Now we've got to keep on working at the same level. By believing in ourselves again and sticking together as a group, the results will come."

Following Saturday's long trip the Wrens face a potential banana skin in the semi finals of the Notts Senior Cup at high-riding Central Midlands side Sutton Town on Wednesday. After difficult matches against Newark Town and Dunkirk in earlier rounds, Whyte insists Wrens manager Kevin Gee will be taking nothing for granted as they bid to end the season on a high.

Whyte added: "It's an important one. There is no reason why we shouldn't progress to the final, and if we do, then with the quality of the squad, there is also no reason why we shouldn't end the season with some silverware."
