Local MPs Martin Vickers and Melanie Onn, already at the New Linden for last Saturday's family fun day to officially open the ground, are pictured handing over a giant cheque to the Owls after they missed out on attending the Northern Premier League's end of season awards in Blackpool as one of the four winners of the EVO-STIK League Digital Challenge.
Thanks to the NPL's title sponsors EVO-STIK and parent company Bostik, Colne, Frickley Athletic and Farsley Celtic collected cheques for £1,500 as the number one digital natives in their respective divisions while the Owls were rewarded with the special prize for achieving the highest number of views and downloads for unique video content featuring EVO-STIK branding for their efforts supporting UEFA's Everyone Plays campaign to promote LBGT inclusion.
After being hailed at the highest levels of European football last season, the Owls were rewarded with the special prize by the competition's judges for their efforts since midfielder Liam Davis became the first openly gay footballer to play at Wembley in the 2017 FA Vase Final.
Before being honoured and their first match at the New Linden on Saturday 7 July against Grimsby Town, the Owls hosted a big party for everyone connected with club featuring a BBQ, bouncy castle and live World Cup football on a big screen to mark the return to their revamped home, part-funded with the £50,000 they collected in May 2017 as one of the winners of the Buildbase Club Renovation Programme competition.
