Doodson clash abandoned after injury

The Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's Doodson Sport Cup clash at Brigg Town on Tuesday night was abandoned after Frickley Athletic skipper Matty Bloor was feared to have suffered a double leg break and was rushed to hospital.

Bloor, pictured, was treated on the pitch at the Hawthorns for nearly half an hour by medics before being taken to Scunthorpe General Hospital by ambulance. To the relief of all who saw the incident, the Premier Division's Blues have since reported that their captain's injury was not as bad as it looked and that he'd dislocated an ankle which had now been put back in place by doctors.

The injury occurred when the 23-year-old was said to have fallen awkwardly in the box on 30 minutes, seconds after Luke Hinsley had fired home to put the Premier Division visitors 1-0 up against the Zebras in the third round tie.

With Bloor initially believed to have suffered a break to his lower left leg and ankle, match officials decided to abandon the match at approximately 8.50pm after consulting with the management of the clubs. Both agreed the players were 'not in the right frame of mind' to continue after witnessing the incident and aftermath as Bloor was treated so he could be moved safely.

A spokesman for the First Division South hosts said: "Everybody here wishes Matty a very speedy recovery. He landed awkwardly in the move that led to the goal and was very badly hurt. None of the players were in the right frame of mind to continue. We all hope he is okay and offer Frickley and the player our deepest sympathy on what was a very sad end to the night for all concerned."
