Doodson review and second round draw

There were a number of ties in the first round of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League`s Doodson Sport Cup this week ahead of Wednesday's draw for the next round, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Stafford Rangers won the all-First Division South derby at Tividale, thanks to goals from Christian Dacres after 47 minutes and Dan Cope 18 minutes from time.

The all-Premier Division encounter saw Ilkeston FC triumph 1-0 at Causeway Lane against Matlock Town, courtesy of a 10th minute goal from Mike Williams.

Ilkeston's league rivals Rushall Olympic needed a 3-2 penalty shoot-out verdict to progress at the expense of First Division South neighbours Chasetown after a goalless draw in normal time.

And there were three other all-First Division North ties which saw Tuesday night victories for FA Cup heroes Warrington Town, 3-0 at Radcliffe Borough`s Stainton Park, with a Scott Metcalfe penalty, David Mannix and Steve Foster all finding the target.

Lancaster City went nap at the Giant Axe against Clitheroe, Neil Marshall, Reece Pearce and Lee Dodgson giving the Dolly Blues a 3-0 interval lead that Ryan Winder and Aaron Taylor added to in the second period.

And on Wednesday night, in-form Bamber Bridge comfortably beat struggling Padiham 4-1 at the Arbories, thanks to Chris Marlow, new signing Kieron Pickup, Ali Waddecar and Mattie Kay – Scott Byrom having made it 1-1 for the Storks after just four minutes.
