Double winner will be remembered

By David Watters

Mossley will hold a minute's silence to remember Vinny Garmory before kicking off in the EVO-STIK League against Droylsden on New Year`s Day after learning of the FA Trophy finalist's death.

A member of Mossley’s Northern Premier League and League Cup winning side of 1978-79 and title-winning side the following season, the double winner, pictured, passed away on Thursday (December 28) aged 59.

Although he didn’t make the team for the FA Trophy Final in 1980, the former Manchester City youth team captain played in several rounds on the way to Wembley and scored a total of 27 goals for the EVO-STIK League North club in 247 appearances.

He later enjoyed spells with fellow Tamesiders Stalybridge Celtic and Curzon Ashton before moving to Market Deeping near Peterborough 28 years ago to work as a civil servant.

A Lilwhyites spokesman said: "There will be a minute's silence in memory of Vinny prior to the New Year's Day game. Our thoughts are with Vinny’s family and friends."
