Dovecote return for third annual charity clash

The DW Trophy charity match is returning to Shepshed Dynamo’s Dovecote Stadium on the first Sunday in August.

The British Heart Foundation and East Midlands Ambulance Service are set to benefit for the third year running from the charity fundraiser at the former EVO-STIK League ground in memory of Dynamo’s former director, secretary and groundsman Dave Wheatley.

A respected and well-known figure throughout Non-League football, the Dynamo stalwart passed away suddenly on July 4 2011. He will remembered again when this year’s clash kicks off at his spiritual home at 2pm on August 3 with a Shepshed Dynamo XI aiming to reclaim the DW Trophy following last summer’s defeat to the All Star XI.

Craig Wheatley, chairman of the charity set up by his family in his late father’s name and the event's organiser, said: "Once again we will remember my father in possibly the only we could, a game of football, of course. We will once again celebrate his life next month and continue to raise much needed funds for our two nominated charities."

The DW Trophy Charity Fund is currently auctioning the official signed match ball from the inaugural fixture in 2012. Further details can be found at www.dwtrophy.org.uk and on social media twitter @dwtrophycharity #dwtrophy2014. More information on the family fun day and charity fundraiser is also available on Facebook.
