Dunston announce new club captain

Dunston UTS have announced defender Michael Pearson will be their new club captain ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Pearson has been with the club since the 2015-16 season after signing from Consett AFC. His past clubs also include Hartlepool United, Blyth Spartans and South Shields.

The 30-year-old has previously been vice-captain at the club, and has also captained them on several occasions.

Pearson takes the armband from Craig Scott, who has left the club following the conclusion of the season, after five seasons at the club.

He was an ever-present for the Fed last season. He made 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals. His last goal came in a 4-1 victory over Tadcaster Albion in April. Pearson opened the scoring.

"I'm absolutely buzzing to be asked to be the new club captain,” Pearson said. “I was delighted when Jon [McDonald] asked me to take over, so I can't thank him enough.

“I've got a lot to live up to after how Craig Scott has represented the club for the last five years, he will be a massive miss to the club and I wish him all the best for the future.

"It was an easy decision as soon as Jon asked me and I immediately said yes.

“Having been the Vice Captain for a number of years and captaining the team on a number of occasions, I already know what it means to captain a club like Dunston and I am extremely proud to be the new Club Captain on a permanent basis."
